It's election day here in DR, not the presidential, just the one for the senators and mayors, it was a huge deal because since they want to put the presidentials and this one together next time so the ones elected today will stay for 6 years instead of 4.

I was lucky that were I vote there werent many people so I just went in and out :)

Here they paint your finger with ink after you vote!

Do they do that in any other country?

I just went back home after that and relaxed :)

Today was one of those great do nothing at all kind of day and I loved it :)
We spend all day eating blondies, and not because we had leftovers, but because we liked them so much I decided we NEEDED more, yes needed!
And we dont have leftovers today either :/

I also spend all day looking for complete movies on YouTube, and watched a couple of them and then I found this:
OMG childhood memories kept floating my head as I watched it, it is COMPLETE in YouTube. So go watch it, if you liked it when you were little you will love it even more now, I know I did :)
Also great to show your children if you have little ones.

I {HEART} Baking- Mecho's Hair Salon Blondies

Since I am on vacation, I {HEART} Cooking and Baking is back, ohhh how I miss baking!!!

Before I give you the recipe here is a little story about it:

Dear Big Sister, I just posted a picture of you on my blog, why? because I can, THAT is why!

Ok, lets go on... so when we where little we used to go with my mom to the hair salon (Mecho's), and one lady there used to sell the best blondies EVER!

Back in those day I had no clue the name was blondie so I just called them white brownies.

I've been experimenting to find the recipe of those blondies and today, because of lack of ingredients I found it, so here it is.

Ingredients

-1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil

-1 tablespoon of milk

-1 cup of brown sugar

-1 egg

-1 cup of flour

-1/2 teaspoon of baking powder

-1/4 teaspoon of salt

-1 teaspoon of vanilla essence

-1 teaspoon of almond extract

-2 tablespoons of chopped nuts (your choice of nuts and optional)

Just mix all of the ingredients and pour on a greased pan (the batter will look weird so dont worry about it.

Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Allow to cool before you unmold and enjoy!!!

Notes: do not change the ingredients if you want to get it right, this are chewy, crusty and just perfect!

Vacations!!

We are on vacation (15 days off) of course we wont be here the whole 15 work days, we'll spend our free time between Los Cacaos and the city (can you tell we are attached to the place).

Our year working there is coming to an end, but we decided to stay for a couple of more month to finish the health project in the community, that will make it easier for future doctors that come and hopefully doctors will keep coming. Los Cacaos is 2 hours away from the big hospital so having doctors right there is really important!!

Yesterday we loaded our car with boxes of milk and meds left from the medical operative we had and went up in the mountain to give it to the people that were unable to come to the operative. We went as far as the vehicule allowed us and then I started going house through house, people were SO happy to recieve this things :)

Today we are back in the city and I had Yaroa for dinner (then I ask myself why I dont loose the weight!). Yaroa is a dump dish originated in the north of DR :) made of either french fries or yellow plantain, your choice of meats, special sauce, mayonaise, ketchup and melted cheese, it is ohhh so YUMMY!The picture does no justice to this delish Dominican dish :) If you ever visit me I will buy you one myself and you will thank me forever ;)

At Los Cacaos...

We had a huge medical operation (operative or however it is called) at Los Cacaos, a group of doctors came from Puerto Rico and we had tons of donations for the people that went, 110 boxes filled with food, clothes, toys and milk for kids, we worked all day but were so happy!

I didnt took a lot of pictures but here are a few...There were over 1000 people there :)My sweet Bayohan with one of the doctors that came.

I still have a lot of milk and baby cereal left that I am giving to my patients that couldnt make it that day :)

We are really grateful for all of this!!
