June 8th, 2009

We are back at “Los Cacaos” and there is a new doctor here so now we are 4 working, which is really good because there is tons of work to do!
I started decorating the room a little more, to make it feel more like home, and we both really like it :)
Today Bayo started working in the ER and I moved to the normal doctor's office area.
We were a little sad to leave the city, but as soon as we got here that feeling went away, we really like it here!
That big thing on top of the bed is to protect against Mosquitos bites at night :)

Our toilet has a seat cover now, YAY!!

We took our Computer desk.

Had to move the small fridge, because the other plug wasnt strong enough!

This is were we hang our doctor rope, next to the door to pick it up fast when there is an emergency in the middle of the night!

Moving was really hard but I feel like is not over yet :/
We went to the store to get all the things we are missing back at "Los Cacaos", since we are coming everyother weekend I dont want to have to pack a lot of stuff, just have all the basics here and there, so we can just pack the clothes :)
We also bought some decors to make our small place prettier!!!
Tomorrow we'll go back again and will be there 2 more weeks, we are hoping to get internet this week, if not I will keep saving my posts to publish them once we come back.

We moved to the mountain so this week's theme for FFF is kind of perfect: OUTSweet hubby fishing in the lake :)
This will be kind of like our backyard :)

June 4th, 2009

Yesterday was good day and we went exploring the surroundings, the night not such much, the electricity went off and there was a lady with a miscarriage and a couple of sick babies in the ER.
Today was a beautiful day!! A guy that lives in front of the hospital took us with him fishing, and the place was gorgeous, I cant believe there are so many places this beautiful in my country that I never even new about, I feel like I am getting to know a different kind of Dominican Republic and I love it (not that I didn’t already love the other places I’ve been to here), but the sight was out of this world. We didn’t catch any fish (we did but we let them go because they were too small), this guy does fishing and selling the fish for a living and he REALLY knows his thing, we even went for a ride in his fishing boat :)
I guess what everyone keeps saying is true: “you are not going to want to leave”

June 2nd, 2009

Today I actually started working in the Emergency Room, we are going to rotate in the different areas here; basically the work is really easy because we don’t see a lot of complicated diseases but the volume is BIG wish mean A LOT of work!
I really cant complain about the people here, they are constantly taking care of us, this morning they even brought us breakfast!
Last night I was on guard in the emergency and only one patient came at 3 am with tooth ache, yes she came to the ER at 3am because of a toothache, I really didn’t mind because yesterday I was so tired that I went to bed at 7pm so I was really well rested.
Tonight I will be in the ER again and the rest of the week, but we get to go home on the weekend :)

Hall where our room is, we live in the Hospital in an area design for the doctors to live, we get our own room and bathroom, but we share the kitchen with 1 more doctor, another one is suppose to move on monday, but now there are only doctors (us included).

The kitchen is HUGE, another are I'm making prettier :p

we dont have a table yet, we are planning on getting a dinning set next week.

This bucket I took to save water, but so far the water here is good, so no need to use it yet!

Our bathroom :) the cute yellow blob on the kitchen is a cup in the shape of a chick that my sister gave me and I use it to pour water :)

I love my shower curtain, color all the way!!

Updates

I am planning on doing some biweekly updates until I get internet and have a chance to post daily, so I am saving my post until I get back home with internet access!

We'll be coming home every 15 days on the weekends, so we'll have 2 weekends there and 2 home. Now we are home on our first weekend free.

They said we'll get internet this next week but until that REALLY happens here is our update :)

June 1st, 2009

Today we moved to Los Cacaos, the area is really nice and surrounded by Mountains, it is so beautiful :) There are around 400 families here, all of them really poor and in need of tons of thing, at least now they don’t have to travel to get medical attention, because they cannot afford the travel fee.
I spend the whole day fixing our room here and Bayo spend the day seeing patients, at the end of the day we are SO tired :p
People are really friendly here, they are all really happy that we came, because no doctor wanted to move to the mountain, we re like an tour and a half away from the city, but the road is really bad so we cannot travel daily.
I will be coming home every other weekend and until we get internet over there I will be saving my post and publishing all of them when I get to the city.
I am really looking forward to the adventures this next year are going to bring us, wish us luck!
